Resources

This is a list of resources I have found helpful in finding information for my trip.

Books

Dave Barry's Only Travel Guide You'll Ever Need. By Dave Barry.
New York: Fawcett Columbine, 1991. Print
  • This satirical book on travel probably isn't the most useful for information, but it does make for a good laugh on the plane, in a car, or when the stress of packing is overwhelming.

Rick Steves' Prague and the Czech Republic. By Rick Steves and Honza Vihan.
N.p.: Avalon Travel, 2012. Print.
  • Rick Steves has a great collection of travel books. I found this one very helpful in learning a little about the history, geography, and blended cultures in the Czech Republic.
Prague and the Czech Republic. By Neil
Oakland: Lonely Planet Publications, 2012. Print.

  • This book is part of the well-reknowned Lonely Planet series. It does have great information on navigating the city as well as expected prices for the various sites. The restaurants it suggests tend to be a little more expensive than some of the local sites, but it is a very user friendly resource and has helped me plan several day trips.
Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Rememberance and War. By Madeline AlbrightNew York, NY: Harper, an Imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers, 2012. Print.
  • Secretary of State Madeline Albright's personal story of her families escape from the Nazi invasion, followed by counts of her relatives that were killed in the holocaust, has been both a fascinating read and a great Bohemian history lesson. Albright relays stories of Prague's history going back to its founding in the 8th Century, through the Communist Invasion following WWII.
Websites

  • The CIA's website provides great information on the demographics of countries all over the world
"Helping Your Child Deal with Culture Shock." Parent's Guide to Study Abroad, Helping Your Child With Culture Shock – DiversityAbroad.com. Diversity Abroad, n.d. Web. 17 Feb. 2013. http://www.diversityabroad.com/parents/cultural-shock
